Eternity Spills
In the beginning his word was censured
how mighty be the papal pen
Later he was misquoted …
by more modern men
Who said how you voted
may well be a mortal sin
I say a prayer to find him now
forever and ever a-zen
And Rain is beading on a rail
slowly dripping into a pail
Until alas the bucket fills
God blinks while eternity spills
Point of interest became a matter of record
made your case air-tight
Classified data base
obscured wrong from right
Now your secrecy so troubles me
the darkness of no light shed
The way you smiled, reconciled
certain soon I’d be dead
And Rain is beading on a rail
slowly dripping into a pail
Until alas the bucket fills
God blinks while eternity spills
Deli cuts of justice
baloney truth… on rye
Honesty sliced and diced
and severed up as a lie
From the gloom of his belly
he throws up his last meal
Death Row inmate
has lost his last appeal
And Rain is beading on a rail
slowly dripping into a pail
Until alas the bucket fills
God blinks while eternity spills
This world … so dark
I swear I lost my right hand
Setting out right then and there
I left to find a brighter land
Clutching the censured good book
I set out to testify
“Never swear an oath
without a solid alibi”
And Rain is beading on a rail
slowly dripping into a pail
Until alas the bucket fills
God blinks while eternity spills
